My Secret Place

Words: Lotus, candle, lake

His secret place had changed. After years away, the cave had reformed. New paths now open. Genesis always knew about the caves beneath Banora, it was his secret area. He had even managed to make a little base, a small personal corner with a desk and light, his prizes and a dairy from his childhood.

Now he had returned to Banora as adult, getting a couple of days free from duty and in the evening he had decided to pay a visit to the cave only he knew about. Everything was there, if not a bit dusty, he took care of that. But some parts of the cave had fallen apart, some paths blocked while new ones revealed.

Even if his enchanted sight made him able to see into the dark he still decided to search through his old desk, finding some matches and candles he had put there as a kid. With his equipment he went on the adventure to explore the new caves, feeling a sense of childish curiosity as he once did the same many years ago.

Wandering deeper into the cave with his lit candle he soon noticed natural light sources within the walls, faint blue-green lights growing stronger the further he traversed. Not long after, he meets the end of the tunnel, the passage leading him into a great cave room. Standing at the opening of the tunnel, Genesis watched the sight in amazement; everything being lighted by the blue-green light, making the ground and rocks look like they was blue and everywhere there was stalactites and stalagmites, platforms and cliffs combined with hillocks, making it rather easy to move around the area. The place looked unreal and he couldn’t help but feel at a loss for words in his own mind as he stepped further inside.

Now he could see what emitted the blue-green light as well, large crystals stuck out from the walls and roof, it was amazing such area like this existed, underneath Banora as well. Genesis had never expected to find this, he merely went to explore for old memories sake, but this was just amazing, and he was alone about knowing about the place. He took another glance around the cave room, just now noticing the large lake covering half of the room, surrounded by cliffs and shining in the same color as the crystals.

He went over to the shore, amazement still evident over his features. The clear water made one able to see more crystals shine deep down under the surface, but it wasn’t this that caught the man’s eye. Just a short distance from the shore was a flower, a white lotus resting on the water’s surface. He sat down now, placing the still lit candle down against a rock and watched the flower. The pure white blossom and silent atmosphere calmed him down, made him feel relaxed. It was nice for a change since the days before he was fighting a war filled with stress.

Further observation showed there were more flowers, most blooming underneath the surface with only a few being above water. He took a glance around the large room and suddenly got an idea. He would add this place to his secret area, another secret room. Standing up, he set to work.

Some time later, Genesis stepped back, admiring his handy work. Carving into rock wasn’t that easy, but he had managed to write down the lines of his beloved poem onto one large, loose rock. With his strength he had moved the rock and placed it upright in the middle between the water and tunnel he had arrived from. Now there was a sign that he had been here.

Returning to sit down by the water, he noticed he had left the candle burning against the rock, now only a small bit left of it. The yellowish light had a soft contrast to the blue ground and he got a final idea as he watched the flowers again.

Once again he stood up, this time picking up the candle as well and carefully wandering out and into the water. By the flower he first saw, he gently went to place the last little piece of the burning candle in it before carefully stepping out of the water, not wanting to ruin the image by any waves caused by his steps.

Smiling softly in appreciation by the sight he decided that now was the time to leave. It was probably night time by now and he should get back home. He would come back again for sure. And hopefully the white flowers would still be there, he enjoyed the pureness they displayed.
